Cardinal Flower (Lobelia cardinalis)

Flowers: White, Red/Pink, Blue/Violet

Attributes: Hummingbird attractor, Clay soil tolerant, Wet soil tolerant

Height: 30-90 cm (11-35 in)

  

Displays of its intense blue flowering spikes from late August until mid to late September are a beautiful site in a woodland or meadow garden. It is fairly short lived, so it will require open ground to seed onto, .or it can be divided and moved every other year to keep it vigorous. It prefers partial shade and rich, moist soils.
