Wild Columbine (Aquilegia canadensis)

Habitat: Forests

Grows in Sun/Shade: Sun

Flowers: Red/Pink

Attributes: Hummingbird attractor, Clay soil tolerant

Height: 15-90 cm (5-35 in)

The shape of the flowers seems perfectly designed for the hummingbirds' needle-like beak. Columbines readily seed themselves and new plants keep popping up each year, although it is not invasive. In a Native American tradition, the crushed seeds are rubbed on the hands of the men as a love charm.
