This prairie wildflower is valued in the garden for its long season of blooming and its attractiveness to butterflies and seed eating birds. This deer resistant species makes an excellent cut flower and is easy-to-grow in a wide range of soil types. Because it is rare in southern Ontario it should not be planted in the wild.
