Wild Ginger (Asarum canadense)

Habitat: Forests

Grows in Sun/Shade: Shade

Flowers: Green/Brown

Attributes: Walnut tolerant, Clay soil tolerant

Height: 10-15 cm (3-5 in)

Wild Ginger is a great foliage plant and ground covers for shady sites. However it needs rich soil with plenty of moisture to thrive. Under favorable conditions they spread quickly and vigorously. Native Americans used the root to flavor foods like we use culinary ginger (which is a non-native plant, in a completely different plant family).
